Saharan Press is an independent publishing imprint founded in 2011. We publish books that cross borders—between countries, generations and fields of interest—while remaining rooted in the people and places that inspired them.

The press began with The Gambian Cookbook, a collection shaped by childhood memories, family kitchens and the food of the Smiling Coast. That first book established an approach we still value: careful research, lived experience and work made to be shared.

Our catalogue now reaches from food and travel to calendars, children’s storytelling and the folklore of the ancient world. Some titles preserve a particular moment or tradition; others invite younger readers to discover histories and cultures beyond their own.

As a small independent press, we take a selective approach. We give each book the time and attention it needs, working closely with authors and treating design, language and production as part of the story rather than an afterthought.
